Development of electroresponsive functional soft materials by electroresponsive dopants

Abstract In this Focus Review, we summarize our new strategy to create electroresponsive soft materials using dopants. Liquid crystals (LCs) are representative functional that have been utilized for various applications, including LC display devices. The response the applied electric field (E-field) is generally realized by direct coupling between E-field and molecules. Thus, molecules must simultaneously exhibit electroresponsiveness properties. As a concept materials, came up with an idea of Dopants can change property material only minute amount do not need itself, thus allows more freedom molecular design. Based on concept, developed several intriguing such as cholesteric displays rewritable color memory functions quick modulation functions, which both unprecedented. We also columnar systems multiresponsive usually rigid poorly responsive external perturbations.
